On or about 5/12/2026, officers with the Bloomington Police Department responded to a stabbing at the Comfort Inn located on the 1300 Block of 78th St. E. In Bloomington, Hennepin County, Minnesota. Upon arrival, officers immediately observed a male, Victim herein, lying on the ground while several other males were around him providing him aid. Officers took over medical aid, holding pressure on the wound so that blood would not squirt out. Officers were able to observe the wound which was a puncture wound on the inner right bicep and actively squirting blood.
Multiple witnesses stated that the Victim had been arguing with Johnny Lugo, Jr., [DOB REDACTED], Defendant herein. At some point during these arguments Defendant punched the Victim and the Victim [NAME REDACTED]. The two were wrestling and several other men broke up the fight. After breaking up a later fight one of the witnesses noticed the puncture wound as the Victim [NAME REDACTED]. Witnesses confirmed that the Defendant was known to carry a pocketknife and was seen carrying it earlier that day.
In a post Miranda statement, the Defendant stated that he and the Victim [NAME REDACTED]. The Defendant stated that they physically fought 3-4 times that evening. Others in the group broke up the fights several times and separated the two men. After being separated one of the times and being told that the others were trying to keep the Defendant and Victim [NAME REDACTED], the Defendant stated that he pulled out his knife. When asked if anyone else was carrying a knife during the fight the Defendant stated no.
The Defendant stated he pulled out his knife due to the comments others were making during the fight and the pain he saw on the faces of people in the group. The Defendant had his knife open when the Victim [NAME REDACTED]. During this altercation is when the victim [NAME REDACTED] in his arm. The Defendant noticed that Victim had been stabbed and then gave the victim his shirt to help stop the bleeding and walked away. The Defendant is in custody on this charge.
