On November 27, 2025, at approximately 0124 hours, Richfield Police Officers observed a vehicle with a registered owner who had a revoked driver's license near 7744 12th Avenue South, Richfield, Hennepin County. Officers stopped the vehicle and identified the driver as KENNETH DAVONTE SMITH, Defendant Smith herein. Defendant smith is the registered owner of the vehicle, and his license is revoked. While speaking with Defendant Smith, Officers observed a strong odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle.
Officers also observed marijuana stems, leaves, and nuggets of marijuana in the center console near the cupholders. Officers asked the occupants of the vehicle to exit to conduct a search. The passenger was then identified by Wisconsin identification as RICHARD ROBERT WALKER, [DOB REDACTED], Defendant Walker herein. Officers located marijuana shake on both the driver and passenger side floorboards. On the passenger side floorboard where Defendant Walker was seated, Officers located a large plastic bag with marijuana nuggets inside.
Officers also located multiple scales throughout the vehicle. In the trunk of the vehicle, Officers located a suitcase with 27 vacuumed sealed packages containing what later field tested positive for marijuana and weighed approximately 1 pound each totaling approximately 27 pounds. A similar bag was located inside the vehicle with mail addressed to Defendant Smith. Defendant Smith was placed under arrest and stated he picked up Defendant Walker from the airport and that he did not know the marijuana was in the suitcase.
In a search incident to arrest, Officers located $4,709 in cash on the Defendant's person. Defendant Walker was also placed under arrest. Both Defendants made numerous recorded phone calls from the Hennepin County Jail making statements of losing out on money related to the sale of the marijuana. The Defendants are currently out of custody.
