On March 12, 2026, officers of the Coon Rapids Police Department received a report of a disturbance at an apartment building on Coon Rapids Blvd NW in the city of Coon Rapids, Anoka County, Minnesota. The caller, a resident at the apartment building, reported that she could hear what sounded like an assault in progress in a neighboring apartment. When officers arrived at the apartment, they could hear a female, later identified as J. P., crying inside. J. P. Opened the door to the apartment and spoke with officers.
Officers noted swelling on J. P.’s forehead. J. P. Told officers that she had been assaulted and was initially hesitant to provide additional information, stating that she feared that “things would only get worse.” J. P. Eventually told officers that she had been assaulted by Sean Thomas Peterson, [DOB REDACTED], Defendant herein. J. P. Explained that she had been dating Defendant for approximately one year and they were living together in the apartment. J. P. Told officers that she had asked Defendant to leave the apartment, which made him upset.
Defendant then got on top of J. P. While she was sitting on the couch and started to choke her by placing his forearm on the front of her neck. J. P. Could not recall if she was only gasping for air or went unconscious. J. P. Described that she was trying to claw at Defendant’s face in an effort to get him off of her. Defendant then bit J. P.’s left ring finger and left a mark. J. P. Stated that they then both got up and walked towards the apartment door, where Defendant grabbed J. P.’s head and pushed it into the entry door, which caused the swelling on her forehead.
Defendant then left. Officers reviewed video surveillance of the apartment building, which shows Defendant leaving J. P.’s apartment and driving away. Defendant has a prior conviction for Domestic Assault from August 3, 2021, court file 02-CR-21-563. Defendant’s whereabouts are currently unknown, a warrant is requested.
