On April 26, 2026, at 1847 hours, Ramsey County deputies responded to [ADDRESS REDACTED], Shoreview, Ramsey County, on a report of a burglary. The complainant JFT, [DOB REDACTED], reported that he and his ex-wife share custody of a juvenile male. It was his weekend to have the child [NAME REDACTED]. His ex-wife called and asked if the child could return to her house because he reportedly was not feeling well. JFT declined to allow that request. His ex-wive’s current live-in boyfriend, Ryan John Smith, [DOB REDACTED], could be heard in the background stating, “F*** you.
I am sick of this. I am going to come over and kick your ass.” A few minutes later, Smith arrived at his house and started yelling at JFT to open the door. JFT refused because Smith was so agitated. JFT asked him what he planned to do if he opened the door. Smith reportedly said he was going to kick his ass. He asked JFT if he had ever been punched in the mouth. Smith was recorded on JFT’s phone saying, “Open the f****** door, you pussy.” Smith then violently kicked open the door. Smith entered and grabbed JFT’s cell phone and threw it to the floor.
Smith then pushed JFT up against the wall. Smith grabbed the juvenile male and escorted him out of the house. Deputies observed that the door frame was damaged, and the hinges were on the floor. JFT estimated that the cost to repair the door would be over $1000 and the cost to replace his phone would also be over $1000. Video footage from JFT’s phone does show Smith kicking the door twice and damaging it. He is heard stating, “look at you little b**** you never been punched in the f****** mouth.” Smith entered the house and is heard to say, “Now we go.” A child [NAME REDACTED], “you’re scaring me.” The camera stopped recording shortly after Smith entered the house.
Smith turned himself in at the Ramsey County Patrol Station. He declined to participate in a custodial interview.
