The following is based on your complainant’s review of the reports of other officers and your complainant’s own investigation: As of December 5, 2025, St. Paul Police received a report that Ford Explorer had been stolen from out of New Brighton. That evening, at about 7:30pm, a St. Paul Police officer observed the Explorer traveling on southbound Snelling Ave. Near St. Anthony Ave., St. Paul, Ramsey County. The officer followed (awaiting backup) as the vehicle made a series of turns, eventually heading westbound on Bohland Ave., where it increased its speed and then turned into an alley.
As the officer rounded the corner, he saw a man running from the Explorer. Officers pursued the man for several blocks and eventually detained him. He was identified as the defendant, DERON JW KING BAILEY ([DOB REDACTED]). In the defendant’s jacket were the keys to the Explorer, as well as a credit card with the last name of the owner of the vehicle. In a Mirandized interview, the defendant claimed that he had purchased the Explorer from a friend the day prior. When asked whether anything seemed odd about the vehicle, he said that inside of it were items for children.
But he denied knowing that it was stolen. Several days before this incident, the defendant pled guilty to two counts of Theft of Motor Vehicle, and a count of Burglary in the Second Degree, across two separate incidents. Sentencing is scheduled for March 9. His criminal record also includes at least five felony convictions, including for Theft of Motor Vehicle.
