On January 13, 2026, at 5:25 P.M., Eagan police officers responded to a report of a shoplifting in progress at a business in the City of Eagan, Dakota County, Minnesota. The suspect, later identified as the above-named defendant, Kacique Florentino Ubiles, was inside the store concealing items, and he had put a pair of shoes from the store on his feet. The officers eventually entered the store and detained the defendant. The officer could see a shoe tucked inside the defendant’s pants. The defendant told the officer the matching shoe was inside of a bag that he had next to him.
The officer then searched the defendant. In addition to the unpaid for shoes the defendant was wearing, and the shoe in his pants and bag, the officer located a wallet, and the hat that defendant was wearing, that were unpaid for. The defendant spontaneously stated that he was stealing out of necessity. Later, after being advised of his Miranda rights, the defendant told the officer that he initially intended to steal the items, but after the store employees were so nice to him, he changed his mind about stealing the items.
The officer located a plastic bag in the defendant’s right pocket containing a crystal substance that he believed was methamphetamine. The crystal substance was preliminarily tested, and the test indicated the presence of methamphetamine, and it weighed.45 grams.
