On or about 01/05/2026, Officers were dispatched to a robbery of a person at the intersection of 24th Street East and 16th Avenue South, Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota. Officers were advised that this was a shots-only call, followed shortly by a ShotSpotter activation. Shortly after the ShotSpotter activation, dispatch received a call from the reporting party, victim hereinafter, who stated he was robbed at gunpoint and that the people that robbed him shot at him. The victim advised Officers that he was hiding at the church off of 18th Avenue South and 24th Street East.
Upon arrival, Officers observed the victim holding his head and saying it really hurt. The victim reported to Officers that reported that he works for a locksmith company and he received a call to go to 16th Avenue South and 24th Street East to unlock a silver Chevy Equinox. When the victim arrived, he located the vehicle and pulled up behind it. Shortly after, he was approached by two people; suspect 1, later identified as, Malik Cortez Hank ([DOB redacted]), defendant hereinafter, and co-defendant, later identified as, A'Nava Alijah McKee-Bowman ([DOB redacted]). The victim told Offices that the defendant approached him and produced a black firearm and demanded his items and keys while pointing the firearm at him.
The victim refused to hand the items over. The defendant struck him with the firearm and co-defendant punched him. The victim ran away but slipped and the defendant and co-defendant kicked and was hit again. The victim was able to get up again and run away. The victim then told Officers that he heard co-defendant state, "F****** shoot him! Just shoot him!" to the defendant. At this moment, the victim reported that the defendant had shot at him. The victim reported that his car window was broken and reported that the defendant and co-defendant stole a power generator, an Auto Pro Pad, an Autel 608, an Autel 506, a VVDI, some keys, cash, Xhorse VVDI Key Tool Plus tablet, APB112 Smart Key Simulator for Autel, Autel G-Box 3, from his vehicle.
The victim provided investigators with the defendant phone numbers. The number the defendant used to call the victim was[phone redacted]. Investigators issued a subpoena for the TextNow number[phone redacted]. Investigators learned that one of the phone numbers that this TextNow line contacted, [phone redacted], is associated with Melanie Hanks- the mother of the defendant. Her last known address is [address omitted], which is around the corner from where this robbery occurred. Hennepin County CISA advised investigators that Savage PD arrested the defendant, on a separate robbery incident.
Savage PD located three firearms, and a car programmer were located inside the vehicle. The victim confirmed with investigators it was his programmer, with a matching serial number that was located with the defendant. Additionally, Savage PD discovered four phones and one vehicle programming tool that belonged to the victim. Three of the four phones belonged to the defendant. Investigators completed a search warrant for the vehicle programming tool. On February 23, 2026, Investigators reviewed a phone with MPD Tag #347919-2, which belonged to the defendant.
