On March 19, 2026, Commander Scott Carlson, with the Cannon River Drug and Violent Offender Task Force was contacted by Sam Azure with the MN DOC Fugitive Team. Azure advised they had a search warrant for [ADDRESS REDACTED] Apartment 87 in Northfield. Azure said Sebastian Schumacher was believed to be inside the apartment. Azure requested that agents assist with the perimeter on the west side of the building. CRDVOTF Agents assisted with the perimeter while the DOC Agents executed the search warrant and arrested Schumacher inside.
DOC Agent Ben Uzlik advised agents that they observed drug paraphernalia in plain view while executing the warrant. Agent Uzlik also advised that there was a black backpack that was in the bathroom that he believed Schumacher had been seen wearing earlier in the day. Commander Carlson saw on the kitchen table that there was a glass bubble pipe with burn marks on it and white residue inside. The pipe appeared to be a pipe used to smoke methamphetamine. Commander Carlson also saw that there were pills on the table in plain view that were identified as a schedule 2 amphetamine.
CRDVOTF Agents were also advised by DOC Agents that Schumacher was seen going in and out of a 2008 Saturn Vue that was parked in the parking lot of the apartment complex. Agent Michael Shuda was granted a search warrant to search the apartment and the Saturn Vue. CRDVOTF Agents then returned to the apartment and executed the search warrant. While searching the residence, Agent Shuda recovered 6 amphetamine pills and the glass pipe with residue that was originally seen in plain view. Agent Shuda also found a Motorola cellphone in the living room on a couch.
Agent Shuda noted when he picked up the phone that the screen turned on and it showed the phone was connected to a Bluetooth speaker. There was a Bluetooth speaker playing music in the bathroom. Agent Shuda also found a black backpack in the bathroom by the toilet. While searching the backpack, Agent Shuda noted there were multiple needles inside of the bag in the small front pouch. One of the needles had the plunger pulled back on it and it appeared there was a substance inside of the needle. Agent Shuda found a plastic container in the same small pouch.
When Agent Shuda opened the container, he found four baggies of a crystal substance that later field tested positive for methamphetamine. The bags weighed 3.26g, 8.49g, 2.71 g, and 7.34g all without packaging. The packaging and the different weights are consistent with how methamphetamine is typically sold. There was also another plastic baggy with nothing inside of it. In total, about 21.8 grams of field tested positive methamphetamine was located in the apartment that is believed to belong to Schumacher.
Agent Shuda interviewed Schumacher at the Rice County Jail. Agent Shuda read Schumacher his Miranda rights and he stated he understood his rights and he wished to speak with Agent Shuda. Schumacher stated he was staying at the apartment where he was discovered for the past few hours. Schumacher stated the backpack found in the bathroom did not belong to him and he did not know what was in the backpack. Schumacher claimed ownership of the blue bag and the garbage bag found in the bathroom. Schumacher stated he was wearing an orange hat that day, but someone else was wearing an orange hat as well.
