On 04/17/2026 at about 5:14pm, Moorhead Police Officer Bozovsky responded to a reported traffic collision in Moorhead, Clay County, wherein a vehicle struck a parked car, and the driver had taken children out of his vehicle. The weather was bright with a slight overcast. The condition road was straight, level, and clear of any debris. On scene, the officer observed a Ford explorer with plate number MN/SFG502 that had rear ended another truck. The Explorer had sustained disabling damage. The officer made contact with the driver, ultimately identified as Adam Fleetwood, [DOB REDACTED] (Defendant). Defendant said he was driving to pick up his children when he swerved slightly because another vehicle in the opposite lane had come close to him.
The officer observed Defendant’s speech was muffled, garbled, and switched between fast and slow pace. The officer had difficulty understanding him due to the rapid nature of his speech. The officer observed that he had sunken in cheeks, facial twitching, and bruxism (grinding/clenching of the teeth), behaviors which the officer knows to be consistent with stimulant and depressant drug use. Defendant said the next time he gets in an accident, he is just going to run into oncoming traffic instead, and said, "I'm done with drugs." The officer spoke with the owner of the parked vehicle, who explained that his vehicle had been parked stationary in front of his residence when he got a call, informing him that his vehicle had been hit.
The officer spoke with an identified witness, who advised that Defendant had driven straight into the back of the parked vehicle; he had observed Defendant veer over and strike the vehicle. He called police after observing children being removed from the truck. The officer confirmed Defendant had had two juvenile children in his car at the time of the collision. The officer later spoke to the Explorer’s owner N. M. Who confirmed the children’s DOB of xx-xx-2016 and xx-xx- 2016. The officer conducted field sobriety testing, during which time Defendant displayed signs of impairment.
When the officer began to explain the Walk and Turn test, Defendant stated, "that's for alcohol man, meth is." and did not continue or clarify the sentence. The officer had not made any mention that Defendant was suspected to be under the influence of meth. Defendant said he takes Gabapentin and Diazepam. The officer also observed constricted pupils with lack of reaction to light. Defendant was arrested at about 5:52 pm. Officer St. Claire assisted with field sobriety testing. Defendant initially agreed to a Drug Recognition Expert evaluation but then refused.
The officer obtained a warrant to obtain a blood or urine sample from Defendant. Sergeant Leinen assisted. Sergeant Leinen explained to Defendant that refusal to provide a sample was a crime. Defendant was given until 7:30 to provide a sample, but he refused. Defendant was convicted of DWI in violation of §169A.20, subd. 1(1) on 10/24/2019 in 14-CR-19-4003 and on 9/28/2022 in 14-CR-22-2804. He was convicted of Driving Under the Influence on 6/14/2021 in Cass Co., ND file 09-2021-CR-02595. 3 14-CR-26-1308 Filed in District Court State of Minnesota 4/20/2026 PLEASE TAKE NOTICE: Pursuant to Minn.
