Michael Anthony Thurstin

On or about 4/5/26 at around 5:44 P.M., a Metro Transit Trip Agent (Agent) located an unattended backpack on the southbound Metro Transit Blue Line at the Terminal 1 station in Bloomington, Hennepin County, MN. The Agent opened the backpack and saw a firearm and ammunition. The Agent reported this to officers. Officers opened the backpack and found a black firearm. Officers also found a gun box and a total of 10 rounds of ammunition. Officers found paperwork in the backpack with the name Michael Anthony Thurstin, [DOB REDACTED], Defendant herein.

Defendant was seen in surveillance video with the backpack and left the backpack on the train. Defendant was subsequently detained wearing the same clothes he was wearing in the surveillance video. Defendant has the following convictions that prohibit him from possessing a firearm or ammunition: 18-CR-16-3139 convicted on 2/9/17 of Assault in the 3rd Degree 18-CR-17-2502 convicted on 8/31/17 of possession of a firearm by prohibited person convicted of a crime of violence. Defendant is currently in custody.
