On January 15, 2026, at about 6:22 P.M., Officer Peterson and Officer Charlton of the Rochester Police Department conducted a traffic stop for window tint and traffic violation in 10 7th Street NW, Rochester, Olmsted County, Minnesota. Officers observed the vehicle made a wide turn and drove over the center line on 6th Street NW. Officers made contact with the driver identified as Mackenzie Ann Sharp ([DOB REDACTED]). While speaking with Sharp, Officer Peterson detected that she had rapid speech and made rapid movements.
Officer Peterson observed Sharp had over exaggerated movements, had difficulty handling her purse, and her eyes were glassy. Officer Peterson observed she had facial tremors and her pupils were slow to react to his flashlight. Officer Charlton observed a purple tubing connected to a pipe inside of a black satchel behind the center console. Officer Charlton observed Sharp was smoking a cigarette she pulled from a cigarette pack that was sitting on the center console. Officer Peterson administered field sobriety tests to Sharp and observed additional signs of impairment.
Sharp stated she had a TBI in 2020 and she had not consumed alcohol or taken any medication. During the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test, Officer Peterson observed Sharp could not stand still. She was constantly moving throughout the test. Sharp estimated the passage of 30 seconds in 25 seconds. She had eyelid and facial tremors and her hands were twitching. Her pulse rate was measured at 122 beats per minute above the standard range. Officers placed Sharp under arrest for suspicion of controlled substance impairment.
Officers obtained a K9 sniff of the vehicle for suspicion of drug activity within the vehicle. The K9 positively alerted on the vehicle. Officers searched the vehicle and found two handgun magazines and suspected methamphetamine. Officer Charlton located a black satchel behind the center console that contained multiple items of drug paraphernalia, two baggies containing suspected meth, unused baggies, a digital scale, a cigarette pack and a pouch that had writing on it “all kinds of illegal stuff in here.” Officers also found a blue backpack with two baggies of meth, a cigarette pack, two 9mm magazines and a letter addressed to “Macky”. The suspected meth tested positive for meth and fentanyl.
The weights were 0.5, 0.8, and 1.7 grams for a 3 ••-CR-••-•••• Filed in District Court State of Minnesota 1/16/2026 total weight of 3 grams. Officers obtained a search warrant for Sharp’s blood or urine sample. Sharp provided blood sample. The results are currently pending.
