On February 27, 2025, law enforcement were on routine patrol in the area of 34th Ave N / Penn Ave N in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota. During this patrol, officers observed a truck going through a round about at a high rate of speed. The truck continued to take turns at a visibly high rate of speed, and officers noted the suspension of the truck appeared to be loaded to one side. This caused items inside the truck to be on the verge of falling into the roadway. A traffic stop was initiated.
The truck was observed to have a damaged ignition and a "peeled column" which are consistent with it being stolen. Officers asked the driver of the vehicle, LUIS AYALA GARCIA Defendant herein, to step out of the vehicle. Defendant admitted that there was methamphetamine in the vehicle. Given this admission, the vehicle was searched. On the seat between the Defendant and his passenger was a backpack. Inside the backpack was a firearm. Defendant does not have a permit to carry the handgun. Defendant also admitted to handling the firearm.
Defendant's DNA was located on the firearm. Defendant has a prior conviction for carrying a pistol without a permit, enhancing this to a felony. (27-CR- 23-288). Defendant is currently not in custody. His whereabouts are unknown. Defendant has an active warrant, and the State is respectfully requesting a warrant issue in this case as well.
