On April 8, 2025, Mounds View Police responded to Steve’s Appliances, [ADDRESS REDACTED], on a call where a male attempted to use a credit card that was declined to pay for merchandise. When asked for identification, the male suspect said he did not have it, and left. The male suspect left with a passenger in a white Jeep, Minnesota license plate [PLATE REDACTED]. BH, Steve’s Appliances, reported a male made two purchases with a Visa credit card ending in -7031 on February 17, 2025 for $708.02 and $375.20. In this case, the suspect made the purchase over the phone and provided the credit card number by phone.
The suspect wanted the items shipped to Jamal Teklu, 3417 26th Avenue South, Minneapolis. Later, the suspect went to Steve’s Appliances to sign for the items. On March 26, a charge back occurred to Steve’s Appliances because the credit cards used did not belong to the person. Steve’s Appliance filed an appeal with Visa, but lost. They were charged additional charges, making the total loss to Steve’s Appliances $1126.26. On April 8, 2025, the male suspect went to Steve’s Appliances to make another purchase for a total of $811.59. The credit card presented was declined and the suspect was asked for identification.
The suspect said he did not have identification with him, and left the store. Suspect wanted the items delivered to “Adam Ali” at [ADDRESS REDACTED] South, Minneapolis. The suspect wanted the items billed to the same name, but at [ADDRESS REDACTED], Minneapolis. BH provided investigators with photos of the suspect and suspect vehicle. Checks on the license plate indicated the suspect vehicle registered to A. Ali, a female, 3423 26th Avenue South, Minneapolis. This address is next door to 3417 26th Avenue South, Minneapolis (address given by suspect for purchase on February 17th). The address for ABUBAKER MOHAMED ABDI, [DOB REDACTED] on MyBCA is 3423 26th Avenue South, Minneapolis.
Investigator Tan noted the DVS photo and description of ABDI matched the suspect from security video. Investigator Tan identified the suspect as ABDI. Investigator Tan called a phone number listed in police records for ABDI. ABDI claimed Investigator Tan had the wrong phone number, did not know anything about the case, and hung up the phone. On April 30, 2025, Investigator Erickson went to 3423 26th Avenue South, Minneapolis. The Jeep, suspect vehicle, was parked at the address. Shortly after, AA exited the home, entered another vehicle.
Investigator Erickson activated squad lights and approached the vehicle. AA said he was ABDI’s brother. AA said ABDI no longer lives at the address. AA called ABDI and allowed Investigator Erickson to speak with him. When asked if he remembered purchasing appliances at Steve’s Appliances, ABDI said no. ABDI was told there was security video of him buying the appliances and shipping them to the address on 26th Avenue. ABDI was told the credit card was stolen. ABDI responded, “Oh was it?” ABDI told the investigator they could speak at a later time and agreed to meet at the police department the next day.
