On April 10, 2026, police received a report from an adult female, identified herein as “Victim,” about explicit videos being posted by her ex-boyfriend. Victim resides in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota. An investigator spoke to Victim, who identified her ex-boyfriend as CURTIS JAMES EMERY ([DOB redacted]). Victim and EMERY had dated on-and-off for about seven months. Victim stated that she had met up with EMERY on April 9, 2026, and they went to a sports bar. They went back to his home in Richfield, but got into an argument, so Victim left and walked to a nearby restaurant.
EMERY later showed up at the restaurant and started harassing Victim, so she called police (the investigator confirmed that there was a Richfield Police incident related to this call). After police came, Victim took an Uber home. At about 2:30 A.M. On April 10, 2026, Victim received a call from a friend (identified herein as “Witness”) stating that an explicit video had been posted to her Instagram depicting Victim performing oral sex on an unknown male. Victim tried to delete the video from her account, however, it would repeatedly get reposted.
Victim recognized herself in the video and stated that it was filmed two years prior. Victim told the investigator that EMERY had taken her cell phone about a week prior to this incident. She had reported the theft to police, but EMERY had stated that he had thrown her phone in a yard and police were unable to locate it (the investigator again confirmed that there was a Richfield Police incident related to this call). Victim stated that EMERY knew the passcode to this phone, which is how he would have accessed the video and her social media account.
When the video was posted, Victim used the “Find my iPhone” application to see where her stolen phone was located and saw that it was pinging to EMERY’s address in Richfield. Victim also reported that EMERY also sent the video to Victim’s brother and father on April 10, 2026. The investigator spoke to Victim’s brother (identified herein as “Brother”). Brother stated that EMERY had sent him the video of Victim performing oral sex through Facebook Messenger from EMERY’s personal Facebook account. Brother provided police with screenshots of this message.
The investigator also spoke to Victim’s father (identified herein as “Father”). Father stated that EMERY texted him the video of Victim performing oral sex. Father did not want to watch the video, so he asked Victim to delete it so he wouldn’t have to watch it. Victim recorded a video of the text string between Father and EMERY, including the explicit video, before deleting the video, and she provided the recording to police. Witness also spoke to the investigator, who stated that she saw the explicit video posted to Victim’s Instagram stories, and she was immediately able to identify Victim because she saw her face.
