On November 1, 2025, Eden Prairie Police Department officers responded to a theft in progress at a store at [ADDRESS REDACTED] in Eden Prairie, Hennepin County, Minnesota. Officers learned from the reporting party that a known shoplifter, later identified as JAMIE MICHAEL BALFANZ, [DOB REDACTED], hereinafter Defendant had entered the store. Reporting party further noted that Defendant was observed on surveillance selecting a number of items from the store shelves and taking them into the dressing room of the store.
Upon exiting the dressing room, Defendant was wearing one of the items he had selected from the store shelves. Defendant subsequently exited the store, passing all points of sale without making any attempt to pay for the items in his possession. Defendant did not have permission to remove the selected items from the store without first making payment. The reporting party provided officers with the license plate number to the vehicle Defendant was observed entering and driving away from the aforementioned address.
Later the same day, officers stopped the vehicle and confirmed Defendant was the person observed on surveillance taking merchandise from the store without making payment. The value of the property removed by Defendant without permission is $1,103. Defendant is not currently in custody. Defendant has approximately seven theft related convictions and was out of custody on bail pursuant to MNCIS case number 27-CR-25-24015, also a theft related felony charge. For these reasons, the State believes Defendant is a threat to public safety and respectfully requests this complaint issue via warrant.
