On January 7, 2026, Deputy Gengler was informed that Maerkoyo Obang Abella, [DOB REDACTED] was incarcerated in the Olmsted County Adult Detention Center pursuant to an active warrant from Minnehaha County, South Dakota. Deputy Gengler contacted the Minnehaha County, South Dakota Sheriff's Office to confirm the warrant and their intent to extradite Maerkoyo Obang Abella from the State of Minnesota. Deputy Gengler requested and received a copy of the warrant issued from the State of South Dakota, Minnehaha County Court for criminal case number 49CRI25-004010 signed by Judge Eric C. Johnson dated July 17, 2025 charging Maerkoyo Obang Abella with the offense of Abuse/Cruelty Minor-Less 7 years age in violation of SDCL 26-10-1. On January 7, 2026 Deputy Gengler conducted an extradition interview with Maerkoyo Obang Abella at the Adult Detention Center.
Maerkoyo Obang Abella verbally identified herself. Complainant has reasonable grounds to believe that Maerkoyo Obang Abella, who is currently in the custody of the Olmsted County Sheriff, is the person described in the documents received from the State of South Dakota and is a fugitive from justice. The said Maerkoyo Obang Abella should be brought before the Olmsted County District Court so that she may be advised of her rights and a determination be made whether or not she waives extradition to the State of South Dakota or whether she contests and demands a hearing relative to the right of the State of South Dakota to return her to the State of South Dakota.
