On June 2, 2025, Moorhead Police Department Officer A. Kusske responded to a report of multiple checks being issued without payment rendered at the Menards in Moorhead, located in Clay County, MN, by an individual named SHELBY DONTAE DENVER WHITT [DOB REDACTED], hereinafter the Defendant. The complainant, [NAME REDACTED] indicated that this had occurred on five or six occasions in May of 2025. During the first incident, the Defendant entered the Menards store on May 21, 2025, and paid for $591.47 in merchandise with a check.
The Defendant signed his own name on the check. The Defendant did the same on May 22, 2025, this time using a check to purchase $840.82 in merchandise. On May 24, 2025, the Defendant again purchased $506.10 worth of merchandise at the Menards in Moorhead, using a check. The Defendant again entered the same Menards on May 25, 2025, and purchased $1,041.66 in merchandise using a check. The Defendant did the same on May 27, 2025, writing two checks for $1,156.29 and $749.05. The total amount of money rendered via check between these six transactions totaled $4,885.39. Payment on all six checks bounced, and was not provided to Menards.
The Defendant was later interviewed at the Cass County Jail, and admitted he was aware there were no funds in the account when he cashed the checks. PLEASE TAKE NOTICE: Pursuant to Minn. Stat. 609.49., intentional failure to appear for duly scheduled court appearances may result in additional criminal charges, and in addition to any arrest warrant that may otherwise be issued by the Court.
