On July 9, 2025, at approximately 6:30 A.M., Officer Hoefs of the Austin Police Department made contact with Victim (an adult female) who reported that DAVE GOLLEN JOHNSON, DOB/111567, the defendant herein, violated a harassment restraining order (HRO). The defendant is the subject of a HRO issued by Mower County District Court on July 9, 2024 (file ••-CR-••-••••) and personally served upon the defendant on July 9, 2024. The HRO specifically prohibits the defendant from having any contact with Victim A and prohibits the defendant from being within 500 feet of Victim A's home located in the City of Austin, County of Mower.
Victim A advised Officer Hoefs that she woke up that morning and saw that there was a sunflower on the windshield of her car. Victim A stated that she then reviewed video footage taken of that area of her driveway and observed that on the evening prior at approximately 9:41 P.M., the defendant walked up her driveway and placed the sunflower on her car. Victim A stated she threw the flower in the trash and called the police. Victim A provided the video footage to Officer Hoefs. Hoefs also photographed the sunflower located in Victim A's trash.: Officer Hoefs then went to the defendant's address.
As Hoefs parked, the defendant exited his house and walked down the street by Hoefs. Hoefs observed the defendant to be wearing the same clothes as seen on the video footage. Officer Hoefs made contact with the defendant. The defendant initially denied going to Victim A's home or placing the flower on her vehicle. When Hoefs advised the defendant of the video footage, the defendant then admitted to going to Victim A's home the night before and placing the flower on her windshield. The defendant stated that he knew he violated the order, but that he missed Victim A. The defendant was placed under arrest and transported to the Mower County Jail.
