On March 4, 2026, officers were dispatched to a residence located in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota, based on the reporting party’s brother threatening her with a hammer. When officers arrived, they met the reporting party, an adult female identified herein as “Victim,” at the door. Victim identified her brother as LAVERL JOSHUE WHITEHEAD [DOB REDACTED] and stated that he was also home. Victim reported the following to police. Victim had recently returned home after staying with her significant other, and she was upset about WHITEHEAD taking some of her property.
She and WHITEHEAD got into an argument. During the argument, WHITEHEAD repeatedly stated that he was going to kill Victim. Victim grabbed a vase to protect herself because she was fearful of WHITEHEAD. WHITEHEAD then grabbed a claw hammer from his room, raised it in the air, and waved it around while making threats to Victim. Victim [NAME REDACTED] was going to use the hammer and she was afraid. An officer also spoke to the mother of Victim [NAME REDACTED], who stated that Victim [NAME REDACTED]. Victim [NAME REDACTED], and then WHITEHEAD picked up the hammer.
In a subsequent statement to an investigator, the mother told police that WHITEHEAD did say something to Victim [NAME REDACTED], which is when Victim [NAME REDACTED]. WHITEHEAD was arrested on scene. After being advised of his constitutional rights, WHITEHEAD stated that Victim [NAME REDACTED]. He did not recall her saying that she was going to kill him and did not see her pick up a vase. He denied stating that he was going to kill her and denied picking up a hammer. WHITEHEAD remains in custody.
