On December 31, 2025, at approximately 5:20 P.M., Wright County Sergeant Anderson was on routine patrol when he observed a 2011 Ford Edge with Minnesota license plates TJZ945 traveling SB on Barthel Industrial Dr. NE with a driver side head light not functioning. A traffic stop was initiated on 50th St. NE near Barthel Industrial Dr. NE, in the City of Albertville, County of Wright. The driver was identified by MN DL as Shawn Richard Beggs, [DOB REDACTED], hereinafter the defendant. When asked, the defendant was unable to produce proof of insurance.
Sgt. Anderson observed a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage as well as a strong odor of fresh marijuana and burnt marijuana, all emanating from the inside of the vehicle. When asked if any of the occupants had smoked marijuana the passenger, Michael Walter Miller, stated he had some on him in a dugout. Miller produced a dugout containing a green leafy plant material consistent with marijuana. The marijuana was open in the passenger compartment without any labels. The parties were asked to exit the vehicle to conduct a vehicle search.
Sgt. Anderson located a glass bubble pipe with burnt residue consistent with methamphetamine use in the center console, and a plastic wrapper containing 0.67 grams of a white crystal substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine inside a cigarette pack inside the center console. When asked if it was his pipe and "dope" in the center console, the defendant admitted that it was.
