On January 23, 2026, at approximately 2:44 A.M., Saint Paul Officers responded to an apartment building on Edgerton Street, Saint Paul, County of Ramsey, on a person threatening a neighbor with a knife. DAP reported he was awakened between 2:00 and 2:30 A.M. To loud banging on his apartment door. He looked through the peephole and observed ANGELO ANTONIO SCALZE II, [DOB REDACTED], kicking his door, holding a knife in his hand, and pointing it at the peephole. SCALZE shouted, “Come out m***********. Call them!” DAP said SCALZE damaged his door.
DAP said he had previous incidents with SCALZE where he appeared high. The deadbolt to DAP’s apartment door was split. When officers arrived on scene, they saw SCALZE in front of DAP’s door and armed with a knife. SCALZE retreated to his apartment when confronted by officers. Officers went to the 14th floor and observed the door to [APT REDACTED] open. SCALZE walked out of the unit wearing no shirt and jeans. Officers observed a silver fixed blade knife in his rear right jean pocket. SCALZE was ordered to put down the knife.
SCALZE was sweating profusely and made nonsensical statements about being tired of the lasers and lights. SCALZE refused to put the knife down, went inside the unit, and locked the door. Officers continued to order SCALZE to exit the apartment and deployed a Pepper Ball toward his door. Officers obtained a search warrant. Saint Paul Swat Officers breached the door, entered SCALZE’s apartment and arrested him. Two knives that matched the description given by DAP were found in the apartment. After a Miranda advisory, SCALZE spoke to an investigator.
SCALZE said he has had issues with an individual and spoke to building management about it. He said no one has looked into the issues. SCALZE said he has been threatened in the past. SCALZE denied knocking on the door in the morning, denied having an issue with anyone on this date, and denied making threats. He denied having a knife. SCALZE said that the person who lives in apartment 14XX (DAP’s apartment) recently assaulted him. SCALZE said he went to Regions Hospital as a result of the assault.
SCALZE said when he opened his door, he saw a bunch of individuals with handguns and machine guns. The individuals would not answer any questions or make any statements, so he shut his door. Police found two prior reports involving incidents between SCALZE and DAP.
