On March 20, 2025, at 1:21 A.M., law enforcement was dispatched to a report of an intoxicated driver at a Kwik Trip gas station in the City of St. Cloud, County of Stearns, State of Minnesota. Upon arrival, officers observed the suspect vehicle parked at a pump. A records check determined that the vehicle had been reported stolen out of Minneapolis. Officers identified three occupants associated with the vehicle and all three occupants provided conflicting accounts of events. Officers made contact with the driver, identified as Mohamed Aways Ali [DOB REDACTED], the defendant herein.
The defendant stated that he had been hanging out with friends at a house and was asked to drive the vehicle to the gas station because everyone else was high on meth. He claimed he did not know who owned the vehicle and was unaware that it had been stolen. Defendant stated he last used methamphetamine the day prior. One of the vehicle's occupants, H. A. D. (an adult male fully identified in the police reports), stated that the driver, whom he knew as "Jahad," had picked them up on the north side of the city.
According to H. A. D., "Jahad" told him the car belonged to his "auntie," that it was not stolen, and that it was insured. Another occupant, M. E. S. (an adult male fully identified in the police reports), stated that he was picked up near Raymond Avenue in the City of St. Cloud by the two males in the front seat—the defendant and H. A. D. He reported that he asked them to stop at a Wells Fargo branch and later at the gas station. M. E. S. Claimed that he did not know the two males and was unaware that the vehicle had been stolen.
