On March 5, 2026, at approximately 2:40 A.M., Wright County Deputy Willard, was on routine patrol and watching traffic near the intersection of County Road 8 NW and 148th St NW in Silver Creek Township, Wright County, Minnesota. At that time, Dep. Willard observed a vehicle displaying WI AEC7368 turn onto 148th St from County Road 8. A routine random plate check indicated this plate was supposed to be on a 2023 BMW X3, which did not match the vehicle. The vehicle pulled into the Hasty Diner located at 4101 148th St NW in Silver Creek Township and was observed parking with a sole male driver exiting the vehicle and entering the store.
While waiting for the vehicle to leave, it moved to the southwest corner of the truck parking lot area and parked in between two large dump trucks. Dep. Willard made contact with the driver, identified as Jon Curtis Canning, [DOB REDACTED], hereinafter the defendant, who admitted to having a revoked driver's license. After running the VIN, the Deputy learned that the vehicle had suspended registration out of MN. The correct plate was MN PLG553 on a 2006 Maroon Pontiac Torrent. NCIC indicated that the defendant had a Felony warrant for 5th degree drugs out of Hennepin County (#26406167), and was subsequently arrested for this warrant.
While speaking with him, multiple items of drug paraphernalia were observed in the vehicle, and the defendant admitted to possessing a small amount of "dope" located on the floor of the vehicle. A vehicle search was conducted, and a white crystal substance was located on the floor near the center console of the driver's seat. This white crystal like substance later was found to weigh.69 grams and field tested positive for Methamphetamine.
