On December 5, 2025, officers with the Bloomington Police Department responded to the Apple Store (“the Store”), which is in the Mall of America (“the Mall”), located at 114 West Market in Bloomington, Hennepin County, Minnesota. Officers were notified that a stolen credit card had been used. Officers spoke with a known person (“Victim”) via phone. Victim [NAME REDACTED] in 2023, her vehicle had been broken into. Inside of the vehicle was her wallet that contained her driver’s license and credit card.
Victim received a notification from her bank, that one of her stolen cards had been used at the Store. The card was declined by the Store for a total charge of $1218.89. Officers spoke with an employee of the Store who was able to provide a picture of the male who used Victim’s card. The Mall’s dispatch team were able to track the male walking with two other males. The group entered into a vehicle and left the Mall. The dispatch team was unable to immediately provide a license plate number for the vehicle the group got into.
On December 10, 2025, officers communicated with the Mall’s dispatch team. The dispatch team was now able to locate a license plate number for the vehicle. Officers found that the vehicle was associated to a different investigation conducted by the Minnetonka Police Department. In that investigation, officers found that the driver of the vehicle was Deshawn Dominique Nelson [DOB REDACTED] (“Defendant”). Officers obtained a known photo of Defendant and compared it to a still image of the male using Victim’s credit card.
Officers determined that the known photo of Defendant was a match.
