On 1/11/26 at about 1425 hours, a Ramsey County Deputy was driving NB on I-35W when a vehicle (MN/KJZ330) with a broken taillight passed by the squad at a high rate of speed and made multiple abrupt lane changes without a signal. The Deputy followed the vehicle onto County Rd J in Shoreview, Ramsey County and when it approached Lexington Ave, the Deputy activated the squad’s emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop. The vehicle did not stop. Instead, it accelerated away. During the 11 mile chase that passed through Ramsey County, the Deputy pursued the vehicle as it turned north on Centerville Rd, then east on Main St in Centerville, MN. When the vehicle crossed over I-35E, near Oneka Pkwy, it drove into the wrong lane of traffic.
For safety reasons, the Deputy discontinued the pursuit but followed from a distance. The vehicle eventually drove west on 147th St, the Deputy lost sight if it, but the vehicle was quickly found in a ditch near [ADDRESS REDACTED] by a Washington County Deputy. Witnesses said they saw a heavyset white male in his 40's wearing a black hoodie and grey sweats running from the crash site to the east toward City Hall. A perimeter was established. A K9 unit started tracking the suspect near City Hall and the suspect was quickly captured walking east from the City Hall about 3 blocks from the crash site.
The suspect was later identified as Mitchell William SPRICK (DOB of 3/17/90). SPRICK had an active DOC warrant. SPRICK declined a formal interview. SPRICK, however, told the Deputy about other times he had fled from police in a bragging matter. After being booked at the LEC, SPRICKS made several phone calls. During one, speaking to a female, SPRICK said "I apologized on the phone while I was driving". In another, SPRICK said "B**** I just lost a $3,000 car because of you.” And, while waiting for one of his calls to connect, SPRICK spoke to another inmate and said "I got into a high speed chase, got away, and still got caught." For purposes of Rule 6.
