On October 9, 2025, at 23:24 hours, law enforcement conducted a traffic stop in the area of 70th Street East and Portland Avenue South in Richfield, Hennepin County, Minnesota, after observing the driver neglected to turn off their high-beam lights, or "brights", as the officers squad car passed it. The officer made a u-turn to initiate a traffic stop by activating his lights. The suspect vehicle did not immediately stop, and instead drove for approximately one and a half blocks. The officer observed the vehicle swerve onto a lane marker during this time.
The vehicle eventually stopped and the driver was identified as RAYNA MAE CHARETTE, DEFENDANT herein. The officer detected the strong odor of alcohol, and DEFENDANT admitted to having one drink of "Jagermeister". The officer observed DEFENDANT appeared to be struggling to keep her body upright in her seat. A second officer arrived to perform standardized field sobriety tests. DEFENDANT exhibited several clues of impairment throughout the tests. She was arrested for DWI. During a search incident to arrest, officers found suspected controlled substances in her pocket.
The vehicle was also searched, and additional suspected controlled substances were located. Officers also found digital scales. The total substances recovered from the vehicle and person search include.27,.09,.04, and.15 gram field tested positive cocaine Officers obtained a warrant for DEFENDANT'S blood or urine. Officers read DEFENDANT the appropriate advisories, and she submitted to a urine test. Subsequent analysis revealed the presence of cocaine, cocaethylene, benzoylecgonine (a metabolite of cocaine), and fentanyl.
Cocaine and fentanyl are both Schedule II controlled substances.
