On December 10, 2025, at approximately 8:29 A.M., law enforcement was dispatched to the United States Post Office in the City of Waite Park, County of Stearns, State of Minnesota on a report of property damage. Officer Nicholas Koop spoke to two post office employees (fully identified in police reports). They indicated that sometime between 4:45 P.M. On December 9, 2025 and 8:05 A.M. On December 10, 2025, someone damaged property at the post office. There was a blue display cover that had been slashed, three lock boxes that had keys broken off in the locks, and post office box 647 had been opened and the key to it was missing.
There was also a burn mark on the service desk roll up door with a piece of burnt plastic nearby. They located beer cans and clothing in the lobby trash can. On December 11, 2025, at approximately 6:49 A.M., police were called back to the post office. Multiple boxes were put up in the windows of the lobby overnight. Police located a black and orange backpack that had not been there the day prior. Inside the backpack, police found the missing key to post office box 647 and multiple other broken keys.
Miguel Olivas, [DOB REDACTED], the defendant herein, went to the post office and indicated the backpack was his. He had a lighter on him. In a Mirandized statement the defendant admitted he went to the post office sometime between 6 A.M. And 8 A.M. On December 10, 2025. He denied being in the post office overnight from December 9-10th, 2025. He denied knowing anything about the post box key that was located in his backpack. He did admit to recent alcohol consumption. The post office lobby is open from 6 A.M. To 6 P.M. Outside of those timeframes, the public is not allowed into the post office and the doors are locked.
A white pen had been placed in the door frame to prevent the deadbolt from locking. No one gave the defendant permission to be in the store after hours or damage property therein. Complainant has reason to believe and does believe that all of the above information is true and correct. The above facts constitute your complainant's basis for believing that the above-named defendant, on or about the 9-11th day of December, 2025, in the City of Waite Park, County of Stearns, State of Minnesota, committed the offense described herein.
