On April 7, 2026, at about 5:40pm, Minneapolis Police responded to an attempted carjacking outside the American Swedish institute located at [ADDRESS REDACTED] South, in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota. When officers arrived at the scene, they spoke to Victim [NAME REDACTED]E. By his 2024 white Toyota Highlander that he said a group of young black males attempted to steal at gunpoint. Victim [NAME REDACTED]E. Told officers he had arrived at the Swedish Institute and parked in the parking lot.
A group of young males walked up and pulled him out of his vehicle. He said two of these suspects wore facemasks and one pointed a gun at him. The suspects hit him and tried to take his car keys. He said one of the suspects ripped his pants trying to get into his pocket and successfully took his wallet but did not get the car keys. The group entered the car, but when it would not start, they ran away towards the Swedish institute. Officers received video of the incident from surveillance cameras at the Swedish Institute.
The video showed five suspects approaching Victim [NAME REDACTED]E.'s vehicle in the parking lot, pulling him out of his car at gunpoint, assaulting him, and searching his pockets. Officers recognized PATRELLE DAVONTE JOHNSON (“Defendant,” [DOB REDACTED]) in the surveillance video based on previous interactions with Defendant. The surveillance video showed Defendant and juvenile [name withheld — minor]-Suspect K. C. M. Forcibly removing Victim [NAME REDACTED]E. From his vehicle. The group of five enter the vehicle, but after a moment they all exit the vehicle and run towards the institute.
The youth who first approached the vehicle and pointed the firearm at Victim [NAME REDACTED]E. Was a black male wearing a blue and black letterman-style jacket with jeans. On that same day, at about 5:43pm, Minneapolis Police responded to 610 27th Street East, in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota, for a reported carjacking that occurred minutes after Victim [NAME REDACTED]E.’s reported incident. Police spoke to Victim [NAME REDACTED]G. Who said she was seated in her vehicle, a Nissan Murano with Minnesota License plate [PLATE REDACTED] in front of the address when she got approached by a group of young male suspects.
Victim [NAME REDACTED]G. Told police one suspect pulled her car door open and told her to "get out the muthafuckin car" while holding a black handgun. She exited her car and the suspects got inside. The suspects drove away with the Nissan Murano. A passenger in Victim [NAME REDACTED]G.'s vehicle, Witness [NAME REDACTED], said there were five suspects who drove away in the Nissan. This incident happened about four minutes after and one block away from Victim [NAME REDACTED]E.'s attempted carjacking.
