On 03/11/2026 at approximately 7:12 P.M., Minneapolis Police Department Officers were in the area of Nicollet Avenue South approaching Lake Street, in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota, when they received an alert related to a blue Chevrolet Equinox that turned in front of their fully marked squad vehicle and had been reported stolen. The officer(s) observed the driver of the Equinox to be a male wearing a white and blue hoodie. Officer(s) observed the vehicle parked nearby. Immediately after the officer(s) positioned their squad vehicle behind the Equinox, the Equinox pulled forward before a female passenger exited the Equinox.
The Equinox continued towards the exit and the officer(s) initiated their emergency lights and siren in an attempt to conduct a traffic stop. The Equinox continued driving and crossed into anther parking lot before accelerating and failing to stop for the officer(s). Due to the Equinox’s speed and failure to yield, officers discontinued the stop. A short time later, Officers located the Equinox on the 3000 block of Blaisdale Avenue South in Minneapolis. The Equinox was parked and still running with the keys left in the ignition.
The driver of the Equinox was observed running southbound away from the vehicle before jumping a fence. Officers again located the driver walking nearby and initiated their lights and sirens to catch up to him. Officers instructed him to stop. The driver took off running and was pursued by officer(s) on foot. The driver eventually ran into a dead end, where he dropped to the ground and placed his hands behind his back, facing downwards. Officers arrested the driver and identified him as Luis Enrique Pereira Pereira AKA Luis Padilla Enrique [DOB REDACTED], "Defendant" herein.
Officer(s) confirmed the vehicle as stolen earlier in the day from Saint Anthony, Minnesota. Paperwork related to the owner of the vehicle was located in the Equinox when the Equinox was recovered. Defendant is currently in custody.
