Complainant is Maple Grove Police Department Detective Angie Sellman. Complainant states that on February 9, 2025, officers responded to the area of Nathan Lane North in the city of Maple Grove, Hennepin County, Minnesota, regarding a potential burglary in progress. The reporting party advised that he was inside his house with his wife and two children and a male was checking on door handles and beating on his home. The reporting party gave a physical description and stated that the male was trying to smash his front door in.
Upon arrival, officers were unable to find a person in the immediate vicinity of the home that matched the description given, so they made contact with the reporting party. Officers observed that the storm door handle appeared to be missing/broken and a small rectangular decoration was laying on the left side of the front doorsteps that was damaged by the suspect. When the reporting party came to the door, officers observed that the glass panel for the outside storm door was no longer connected to the door.
The reporting party advised that he had been alerted via his ring camera that a male approached his truck which was parked in his driveway. The suspect then attempts to open the driver's side door in a forceful manner but was unsuccessful. The suspect then walked to the front door and started banging on the door so the reporting party dialed 911. The reporting party stated that the male had smashed and kicked the front door area which caused the damage to the galss pane on the storm door, the silver door handle to be broken, and the siding to the left of the front door was cracked.
While speaking with the reporting party, officers were able to locate and detain the suspect. A show up was conducted and the reporting party positively ID'd the male, who was later identified as BOBBY LEE BARELA [DOB REDACTED], as the male who had attempted to enter his truck and damaged his property. BARELA was found nearby in a stranger's house. Officers made contact with that homeowner who advised that an unknown male was in his house having a cigarette with his father.
