On June 3, 2026, at approximately 11:41 A.M., police responded to [ADDRESS REDACTED], St. Paul, Ramsey County, Minnesota, on a report of a male who was assaulted with a stick. Police located the suspect, SEYFU OSMAN AYUB – [DOB REDACTED], and detained him. Police spoke with AAW, Jr., who had a deep laceration on the left side of his head. AAW, Jr. Reported that he got into an altercation with AYUB the previous day, and AYUB bit him. Today, AAW, Jr. Stated that he and his father, AAW, walked by AYUB as he sat on a bench.
AAW, Jr. Said AYUB attacked him with a stick. AAW told police that his son, AAW, Jr., was attacked by AYUB the previous day when AAW, Jr. Confronted AYUB about stealing cigarettes from a fellow resident. During that attack, AAW said AYUB bit AAW, Jr. AAW stated that they did not call the police. Today, AAW advised that they were walking to the store when they saw AYUB sitting on the bench. AAW said AYUB told AAW, Jr. That he was going to kill him, and AAW, Jr. Responded, “F*** you” back. AAW reported that AYUB got up from the bench, grabbed a long wooden stick, and attacked AAW, Jr. With the stick hitting him several times.
While striking AAW, Jr. With the stick, AAW said AYUB repeatedly yelled, “I’m gonna kill you!” AAW said he was scared that AYUB would kill AAW, Jr. AAW stated that he got between them and wrestled the stick away from AYUB. AAW said he and AAW, Jr. Walked back to the lobby and called 911. While waiting for police, AAW reported that AYUB came back holding another long wooden stick and threatened to kill AAW, Jr. Again. AAW denied approaching or provoking AYUB. AAW showed police the stick AYUB used to assault AAW, Jr. It was a piece of broken off tree branch that was snapped in two pieces.
AAW told police that he broke the stick in half after he took it away from AYUB. Each piece was approximately 3 feet long and 6 inches in diameter. Following a Miranda advisory, AYUB told police that he was minding his own business when he was attacked by three white guys. AYUB reported that it happened the previous day as well. The officer noted that it was difficult to understand AYUB because he was so angry. AYUB had a bloody left eye. AYUB stated that the eye injury happened the previous day when he encountered the same group.
The following information is offered for purposes of Rule 6.02. AYUB has a pending charge of felony Domestic Assault in Ramsey County District Court File No. 62-CR- 26-3523 with an offense date of May 19, 2026. AYUB was released on his own recognizance on May 21.
