On June 7, 2025, law enforcement officers from various agencies were working a focused enforcement detail to target ongoing crimes of violence in areas of Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota. Around 2:00 A.M., officers were in the area of a surface lot on 1st Avenue North between 3rd and 4th Street North. An officer walked through the lot and saw a parked Jeep. The officer saw that the vehicle was unoccupied and there was an AR pistol in the rear of the vehicle on the floorboard behind the driver seat.
Officers set up surveillance on the vehicle to see if the occupants would return. An officer observed a group of four males approach the Jeep. This officer aired descriptions of the four males. The group of four males would at times enter and exit the Jeep for a period of time. One male, later identified as DYVELL DESHON DIXON, DEFENDANT herein, was seen in the driver's seat. When he exited, he appeared to grab his waist area like he was attempting to hold something inside his pants. The group eventually separated.
Two males remained in the Jeep and two males, including DEFENDANT, left the area on foot. At this time, officers moved in to make contact with all four males. DEFENDANT immediately tried running upon making eye contact with approaching officers. An officer was able to detain him and take him to the ground. During this action, the officer noticed DEFENDANT appeared to be grabbing at his waist area. After officers gained control of DEFENDANT, they observed that there was a firearm equipped with an auto sear, which makes the pistol fully automatic, on the ground where DEFENDANT was detained.
The firearm was loaded. Officers searched DEFENDANT and located cash and a ski mask. A loaded assault rifle was found in the Jeep. This case was not charged in custody so forensics could be pursued on the rifle, however, forensic testing did not produce additional evidence. This offense implicates public safety and carries a presumptive prison sentence. The State requests the complaint issue via warrant.
