On March 8, 2026, at approximately 1:35 PM, G. K. R. Contacted police to report a stolen vehicle. The reported theft location was on the 200 block in the City of St. Cloud, County of Stearns, State of Minnesota. G. K. R. Stated that he had driven his vehicle the previous evening and described his vehicle as a 2011 White Honda Pilot and later provided the license plate information to police. G. K. R. Confirmed he had not given anyone permission to drive his vehicle. Later on March 18, 2026, St. Cloud Police observed G. K. R.'s vehicle being driven, and stopped it on the 500 block of 11th Street South in the City of St. Cloud, County of Stearns, State of Minnesota.
The driver of the vehicle was identified as Cody John Niland, [DOB REDACTED], the defendant herein. Also in his car was a female passenger. Police located several drug paraphernalia items, as well as 3 pills of suspected Clonazepam (0.5 mg). The defendant claimed he had a prescription for this pill but was unable to produce one. Following his arrest, the defendant later gave a Mirandized statement. Regarding the stolen vehicle, the defendant claimed he had received the key fob from an individual, but could not provide a name of that individual or explain where he obtained the vehicle.
The defendant later stated that he had recently used controlled substances. He ultimately required treatment from medical personnel. Complainant has reason to believe and does believe that all the information is true and correct. The above facts constitute your complainant's basis for believing that the above-named defendant, on or about the 18th day of March 2026, in the City of St. Cloud, County of Stearns, State of Minnesota, committed the offenses described herein.
