On January 4, 2026, at about 4:30 P.M., Bloomington Police responded to Nordstrom at the Mall of America at [ADDRESS REDACTED] in Bloomington, Hennepin County, on a report of theft. A female, later identified as MARQUITA YVONNE MAXWELL [DOB REDACTED], Defendant herein, was observed using a magnet to remove the security sensors from two handbags, and then walking out of the store with the selected handbags without attempting to forfeit or pay for them. Nordstrom loss prevention confirmed Defendant did not have permission to take the handbags, and she was apprehended once she exited the store with the merchandise.
She then immediately dropped the purses and tried to pull away from officers, telling them to let her go. She continued to manipulate her hands and arms in attempts to get away from officers, and she continued to physically resist. She was eventually handcuffed with assistance from additional officers. Both handbags were recovered and valued at $3,880 in total. Defendant had been trespassed from the store for 10 years beginning on November 11, 2025. Defendant also has a prior felony theft conviction from March 26, 2025, in Court File No. 27-CR-24-28930. Defendant is currently in custody at Hennepin County Jail.
