On November 20, 2025, at approximately 1817 hours, Metro Transit Police Officers, were monitoring CCTV cameras at the BRT shelter in Minneapolis, Hennepin County. The BRT area is known to Officers to have a higher call volume of violent and narcotic related calls for service and arrests. Officers observed a group of three individuals in the shelter using glass pipes to smoke suspected narcotics. One of the individuals observed smoking suspected narcotics was later identified as ELSTON EDWARDS SHARPS, Defendant herein.
The glass pipes and appearance of the smoke was known to Officers in their training and experience to be consistent with crack cocaine use. Officers approached the group of three including the Defendant. As Officers approached, the Defendant reached into his pants pocket where the Defendant stated to Officers he was reaching for his knife. The Defendant was placed under arrest. Officers went to retrieve the knife where the Defendant stated that he had cocaine on his person. Officers recovered 1.54 grams of FTP cocaine in a tie off baggie in the Defendant's right pants pocket and a glass pipe.
The Defendant is currently out of custody.
