This case involves a law enforcement encounter.
Shortly before 10:00 PM on November 16, 2025, officers were sent to the apartment building at [ADDRESS REDACTED], New Brighton, Ramsey County on an assault. Officers spoke to JM [DOB REDACTED] who was bleeding and his face was bruised. JM said he was in the main lobby when K’MARI ROOSEVELT WATSON [DOB REDACTED] knocked on the glass asking to be let in. JM ignored Watson’s request because it was a secure building. Watson called someone and got into the building. They had a verbal altercation when Watson got inside, and Watson punched JM’s face three times.
JM told police he had never seen Watson before. JM was transported to the hospital. Watson walked into the building when officers were talking to police. Watson said he forgot his key and knocked on the window for JM to let him in. JM refused, and Watson buzzed his mother who let him in. Watson entered and said to JM, “You couldn’t open the door for me.” JM replied, “You got in.” Watson said he walked away. JM followed Watson, and JM asked if Watson wanted to get his ass beat. JM tossed a baseball in his hands and said, “I’ll kill you with this baseball.” They argued for a few minutes.
Watson walked away and JM followed. Watson told JM that he was not going to follow Watson home. JM again threatened Watson with the baseball. JM put his arm out “like he was about to do something,” and Watson slapped JM with an open hand. JM fell to the ground, and Watson slapped JM again on the ground. JM grabbed Watson’s arm and hit Watson with the baseball. Watson punched JM three times, told JM he should have left Watson alone, and walked away. Surveillance video caught much of the interaction between Watson and JM. Once Watson got inside, he lifted his arms out and spoke to JM. The conversation appeared to be an argument.
JM held his baseball in front of him several times. JM eventually gave Watson the finger. Watson walked up to JM and hit JM with his right hand. JM fell to the floor on his back. Watson stood over JM, and he hit JM again at least 6 more times. Watson pulled out his phone and appeared to take a photo or video as JM lay on the floor. Watson then kicked JM’s head. JM was diagnosed with a fractured orbital. JM’s left eye was completely swollen shut and the left third of his face was covered in bruising.
