On May 22, 2026, at approximately 8:34 P.M., police responded to [ADDRESS REDACTED], Shoreview, Ramsey County, Minnesota. The caller reported that his grandfather just pulled a knife on his grandmother. Upon arrival, police spoke with UH, who told police that her father, NAM-KI KIM – [DOB REDACTED], and her mother, KAK, had been married for more than 50 years. UH said that she was getting ready to go to sleep when she heard an argument between her parents. When she came out of the living room to check, she saw KIM standing over KAK with his fist raised in the air like he was about to hit KAK. UH reported that KAK started yelling and pointed to a knife that was stabbed into the living room table.
UH was fearful, and her son, ANH, called 911. UH told police that KIM is very verbally abusive and apparently still physically abusive. UH said it had been like that for as long as she could remember. When police arrived, KAK was crying and holding a cloth to her face while wincing in pain. KAK reported that KIM began drinking when he got home from work, and they argued about family and financial issues. During the argument, KAK said KIM slapped and punched her then went to the kitchen, grabbed a knife, came back out, and stabbed the table next to the couch where she was sitting.
KAK denied that KIM used the knife to assault her but said she was scared for her safety, felt threatened, and thought KIM was going to use the knife on her. KAK told police that the abuse got to this level a long time ago but not recently. Police recovered the knife, which was an 8 inch butcher knife. Following a Miranda advisory, KIM told police that he was arguing with his wife and would never do this again. KIM repeatedly apologized and said he was sorry. KIM admitted that he drank alcohol that evening.
KIM denied using the knife against KA and said the knife was in the living room because KAK was going to make him some food so he was not drinking on an empty stomach. KIM again told police that he never picked up the knife and did not threaten anyone.
