On 05/16/2026, deputies conducted a traffic stop near Penn Avenue N and West Broadway Avenue in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota. The vehicle was traveling at night without headlights or taillights activated and heavily tinted windows. During the traffic stop deputies spoke with the occupants, a female driver and male passenger later identified as Wesley Rayvon Johnson [DOB REDACTED], Defendant herein. When speaking with the occupants, deputies smelled the strong odor of raw marijuana emanating from the vehicle and observed an opened marijuana package above the gear shift and an ash tray in the cupholder.
After conducting routine checks, deputies re-approached the vehicle and spoke with the driver about the marijuana. The driver opened the packaging and showed that there was suspected marijuana inside. Both occupants were asked to exit the vehicle for deputies to conduct a search of the vehicle due to the improperly packaged marijuana. During the search of the vehicle a loaded Glock firearm with an extended magazine on the front passenger floorboard where the where the Defendant was seated. The firearm was a Glock 30 45 caliber with an extended magazine and Auto sear on the back of the slide, converting the firearm from a semi-automatic to fully-automatic.
The firearm’s serial number came back as stolen out of Richfield, MN. Officers also located a black shopping bag where there was a large quantity of improperly packaged marijuana, a digital scale, numerous unused marijuana packaging (typically packed for sale) and a white drawstring bag in the rear of the vehicle. The Defendant was arrested. During a search of the Defendant a large quantity of cash was located. The Defendant spontaneously stated that the cash was “his mothers.” Deputies reviewed the squad video footage of the Defendant and driver in the rear of the squad which shows the Defendant watching deputies search the car and say “my gun right on the floor, they found it.” A review of the Defendant’s criminal history reveals he is ineligible to possess firearms due to the following convictions: Simple Robbery (Convicted 10/25/2011, Court file Number ••-CR-••-••••) Possession of a Stolen Firearm (Convicted 7/9/2013, Federal Conviction Case number unknown) The Defendant is currently on federal parole and in custody.
