On or about February 18, 2026, Minneapolis police responded to a person with a weapon call at [ADDRESS REDACTED], Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota. Upon arrival, police were directed inside the residence and was informed the involved party was BRIAN DUFFY MCCARTHY [DOB REDACTED] “Defendant” herein, and parties believed he was armed with a hatchet. Police made contact with an individual inside, “Victim” herein. Victim [NAME REDACTED] went upstairs to speak with the Defendant in his bedroom.
Victim said, “What’s up, Big Chief.” Victim said this appeared to upset the defendant, so he exited the room and shut the door. Defendant then forced his bedroom door open, began yelling and screaming threats at the victim. The defendant advanced toward the victim while holding a hatchet and threatened to kill the victim. The defendant eventually dropped the hatchet, they engaged in a brief altercation and during the struggle defendant got behind the victim and put his arm around his neck restricting his ability to breathe.
The victim was eventually able to break free. Police reviewed a video of the incident, and it was consistent with what the victim [NAME REDACTED]. While at the scene, the defendant could not be located. A short time later police return to the address for a report that Defendant returned. Police made contact with defendant and asked him to drop the hatchet. Defendant complied and was taken into custody. Defendant remains in custody.
