On September 5, 2025, officers responded to reported car prowlers in Orono, Hennepin County, Minnesota. Multiple car rifling reports were made to law enforcement. The reports included two males rifling through vehicles. One of the males was described as wearing a Black Nike hoodie and gray joggers. Officers obtained residential surveillance footage in the course of the investigation as well. One of the reporting parties reported that a purse, wallet, and cardholder were stolen out of her SUV that was parked in the driveway.
The reporting party saw the two males rifling through the neighbors’ vehicles. He confronted them and they took off running. A black Los Angeles baseball cap was dropped by one of the males as he ran. The victim later reported multiple unauthorized transactions on various credit cards including: • Fidelity HSA Visa – 09/05/25 0708 hours declined transaction $517.31 at Speedway 04175 ([ADDRESS REDACTED], Mpls) • Fidelity HSA Visa – 09/05/25 1048 hours declined transaction $250.00 at Walgreens 13607 (4100 W Broadway, Robbinsdale) • AMEX – 09/05/25 0627 hours completed transaction $2.50 (water bottles) at Holiday (601 North 5th St, Mpls) • AMEX – 09/05/25 0737 hours completed transaction $1.84 (zig zag hemp) at Speedway / 7-Eleven 46384 ([ADDRESS REDACTED] NE. Mpls) • AMEX – 09/05/25 0738 hours completed transaction $6.53 (5-hour energy – strawberry) at Speedway / 7-Eleven 46384 ([ADDRESS REDACTED] NE. Mpls) Officers conducted follow up investigations by reviewing surveillance footage, including at Walgreens.
Through multi-agency information sharing, officers were able to identify the male who was rifling through the cars as well as attempted the transaction at Walgreens store. The male was identified as Javier Patrick Jay Patton [DOB REDACTED], Defendant herein. The Defendant was observed in both videos to be wearing a dark hoodie with what appeared to possibly be a Nike logo in the upper left chest, a mask covering the sides and top of his face, dark sweatpants with white socks pulled up to the high ankle area over the sweatpants, dark shoes, and a chain necklace around his neck and hanging down onto the front of his hoodie.
The Defendant is in custody in the Minnesota Department of Corrections at Rush City. Due to his custody status, the State requests the complaint be issued by warrant.
