On 12/8/2025 at about 0206 hours, Maplewood Police responded to [ADDRESS REDACTED] E (Good Samaritan) in Maplewood, Ramsey County for a report of a domestic assault. A white female in her 50's wearing a red jacket with bruises on her face had reportedly come to the door saying she had been assaulted. When police got in the area, they found a 2007 white Dodge Caliber (MN/NTG290) on Roselawn that had struck a tree. Its registered owner was Robert Gerald HORTON ([DOB REDACTED]) who was also a respondent in a DANCO where CMB was the protected party (62CR253615). While police examined the scene they were approached by CMB who was wearing a red jacket.
CMB had bruising on her forehead, her cheeks, chin, mouth, and left eye. The bruises were in various stages of forming and healing. CMB said that she was driving in the van with HORTON and he was punching her while he was driving. HORTON then said he was going to kill her and then drove directly into the tree. CMB said that she was not wearing a seatbelt and her head hit the dashboard of upon impact. Police found HORTON walking at Edgerton St N and Larpenteur Ave E and spoke to him. HORTON said he was with his girlfriend, CMB, in the crashed vehicle.
He was driving and CMB was yelling at him. CMB got upset and jerked his hand, causing him to drive off the road and stop against a tree. There was an active DANCO and HORTON had active warrants. Police arrested HORTON. In a post- Miranda interview, HORTON said he picked up CMB at about 2000 hours on 12/07/2025. CMB got upset, got out of the car, and walked to Saint John's Hospital ([ADDRESS REDACTED]). After she got out of the hospital, she contacted HORTON, and he picked her up again. While driving around, CMB got upset and pulled his arm, which caused him to drive into the ditch and up against a tree.
HORTON denied assaulting CMB and said he didn’t know about the DANCO. HORTON was transported to Regions Hospital. CMB was evaluated at Regions Hospital. There, a doctor informed police that CMB had a significant brain bleed that might require surgery. Police also noted that CMB had bruises on her forearms, arms, and shoulders that were all in various stages of healing. In a subsequent interview, CMB said that she had been assessed at St. John's Hospital on 12/7/2025 for domestic assault related injuries inflicted by HORTON. While there, HORTON texted her saying he was sorry and that he would not hit her anymore.
HORTON picked her up after she was discharged at about 2300 hours and they drove around trying to find a place to stay. HORTON became increasingly impatient and angry and began punching CMB while he was driving. CMB said HORTON punched her about 15 times in the face with his closed right fist. When CMB mentioned her ex-boyfriend, HORTON said "I'm going to f****** kill you," accelerated, and drove into the tree. HORTON then exited the vehicle and walked away. CMB said she sought help from Good Samaritan.
