On January 10, 2025, the Columbia Heights Police Department received a fraud report from D. H., who indicated that her debit card issued by Magnifi bank was used without permission at Magnifi bank branches and ATMs in the cities of Columbia Heights, Blaine, and Coon Rapids, all located in Anoka County, Minnesota, on January 9, 2025. D. H. Indicated that an employee at the Coon Rapids branch had reached out to her, indicating that there was suspected fraudulent activity on her account, and that a person had come into the bank to withdraw money using a paper temporary driver’s license bearing D. H.’s name.
Investigator Wagner of the Columbia Heights Police Department obtained and reviewed video footage of the transactions. Surveillance footage from the Magnifi Financial branch located at 843 40th Ave NE in the city of Columbia Heights, shows a female wearing a light brown coat present a temporary driver’s license in paper form to the teller to make a cash withdrawal. Bank records indicate the withdrawal was from D. H.’s account in the amount of $2,500. Surveillance footage from the Magnifi Financial branch located at [ADDRESS REDACTED] NE in the city of Blaine shows the same female inside the bank.
The female can be seen presenting a temporary driver’s license in paper form to the teller to make a cash withdrawal. Bank records for this transaction indicate the withdrawal was from D. H.’s account in the amount of $4,000. Bank records further show two withdrawals were made at an ATM in Coon Rapids approximately an hour after the Blaine transaction. The transactions in Coon Rapids totaled $1,000. Using facial recognition software, Investigator Wagner identified Tayler Elizabeth Brink, [DOB REDACTED], Defendant herein, as a possible suspect.
Investigator Wagner also located a phone number for Defendant, which was confirmed to be a number registered to Defendant through AT&T records. Cellphone location data obtained for Defendant’s cellphone shows that Defendant’s cellphone was near the locations where the fraud was committed during the time of the withdrawals.
