On or about October 9, 2025, Dilworth Police Department Officer E. Hoversten responded to a report of a theft that occurred at the Walmart in Dilworth, located in Clay County, MN. Walmart Asset Protection Officer J. J reported that he observed an individual take a vacuum cleaner down from a shelf, and bring it through a register without rendering payment. The individual responsible, later identified as TREVOR DALE NELSON [DOB REDACTED], hereinafter the Defendant, then took it to the customer service desk and 'returned' the item, receiving $223.00 in cash.
The Defendant was later seen by Hoversten in the parking lot, and a picture of the Defendant was sent to J. J., who confirmed the Defendant was the person that had fraudulently processed the return. Hoversten approached the Defendant, giving commands that the Defendant was being detained and not free to leave. The Defendant hurried to his car, entered the vehicle, and drove off at a high rate of speed - nearly hitting several cars in the parking lot. While doing so, the Defendant dropped a bottle on the ground.
The Defendant was identified after distributing the images captured of the incident to law enforcement officers, who recognized the Defendant. The Defendant's identity was further confirmed after checking prior booking photos, and confirming that the Defendant and the individual in the photos are the same person. PLEASE TAKE NOTICE: Pursuant to Minn. Stat. 609.49., intentional failure to appear for duly scheduled court appearances may result in additional criminal charges, and in addition to any arrest warrant that may otherwise be issued by the Court.
