On June 7, 2026, deputies of the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence on Opal St NE in the city of Bethel, Anoka County, Minnesota, for a report of a domestic assault. When they arrived, officers made contact with an adult female, Victim herein, who told them that her ex-boyfriend, Jacob Robert Michael Syverson, [DOB REDACTED], Defendant herein, had put his hands around her throat and threatened to kill her. Defendant had since left the residence in his vehicle. Victim [NAME REDACTED] had been at the house because one of her children had broken her arm and Defendant had offered to buy groceries.
While Defendant was there, Defendant and Victim began to argue because they each believed the other was cheating. During the argument, Defendant called Victim names such as “dirty whore” and “dumb b****”. Victim stated that Defendant then put both of his hands on her head and squeezed really hard. Defendant also pushed Victim [NAME REDACTED] in the bedroom and pushed her head down on the floor. Victim explained that the argument lasted for several hours and that Defendant would periodically calm down before getting angry again.
Eventually Defendant pushed Victim [NAME REDACTED] in the bedroom and put his hands around her neck, squeezing so hard that Victim could not breathe for about ten seconds before Defendant let go. While Defendant was strangling Victim, he was saying “I’m going to kill you, you dumb worthless b****.” Defendant eventually left. Deputies took a statement from Victim’s juvenile daughter, Child A, who told deputies that she did not see anything but heard Defendant call Victim names “like the b word” and that she heard Defendant use the word “kill”. While deputies were at the residence speaking with Victim, Deputy Grewe located Defendant’s vehicle and initiated a traffic stop.
Defendant told Deputy Grewe that he had been at Victim’s house and that they got into an argument about cheating. Defendant stated that he wanted to leave but said that Victim stepped in front of him, preventing him from leaving. Defendant admitted to grabbing Victim by the arms pretty hard to move her out of the way. He denied strangling Victim [NAME REDACTED] told Victim [NAME REDACTED] was going to kill her if he didn’t leave.
