On 04/01/2026 at 0450 hours, Maplewood Police were dispatched to Half Price Books ([ADDRESS REDACTED] N) in Maplewood, Ransey County to assist the Maplewood Fire Department with a possible dumpster fire. Upon arrival, police learned that a fire had been started near the dumpster, there was no active fire, but a male, later identified as Jason Randall CROSBY [DOB REDACTED], was found near the dumpster. Police saw that CROSBY had a large machete-style knife sticking out of a backpack that he was wearing.
Police told him to set the backpack on the ground, but CROSBY refused and continued to hold the backpack in his hand. Police took the backpack away from him and handcuffed him. When they frisked him, police found a pocketknife and a bubble pipe in his right jacket pocket. While removing these items, the officer saw a small clear plastic baggie containing suspected methamphetamine. The substance later field tested positive for methamphetamine with a net weight of 0.22 g. CROSBY has previous drug related convictions, including: 5th Degree Drugs (GM)(62-SU-CR-21-1628); 5th Degree Drugs (F) (13-CR-19-192); and 5th Degree Drugs (GM)(58-CR-19-114). For purposes of Rule 6.
