On January 4, 2026, at approximately 8:46 P.M., officers from the Fond du Lac Tribal Police Department were dispatched to a report of a lost or stolen wallet that occurred at the Black Bear Casino within the County of Carlton, Minnesota. Officers then made contact with A.M. C., [DOB REDACTED], who stated he could not locate his wallet and that he believed it fell out of his pocket and that it was potentially stolen the day prior on January 3, 2026. Law enforcement then contacted Black Bear security staff and requested that they look through security footage to see if they can find what happened to A.M. C.'s wallet.
Later that day, security staff reached back out to officers and stated that they observed footage showing A.M. C. Dropping his wallet and subsequently being picked up by a male, identified as MASON ALLEN GOTHBERG, [DOB REDACTED] (hereinafter DEFENDANT). While en route to the casino, officers ran a check on DEFENDANT's information and found that he had an active warrant for his arrest out of the State of Wisconsin. Officers then confirmed the warrant with Dispatch. Upon arrival, Black Bear security staff advised law enforcement that they had located DEFENDANT on the west side of the casino.
Law enforcement then made contact with DEFENDANT and placed him under arrest pursuant to the warrant. Upon searching DEFENDANT's person incident to his arrest, officers located a small plastic baggie containing a crystal-like substance in a black sunglasses case, which in the officer's training and experience was consistent with the appearance of methamphetamine. Officers then conducted a field test of the suspected substance, which provided a positive result for methamphetamine with a gross field weight of 0.14 grams.
Defendant has one prior conviction for gross misdemeanor Fifth Degree Possession of a Controlled Substance out of Dakota County, Minnesota (19HA-CR-17-1114).
