On March 21, 2026, at approximately 10:15pm., a Minnesota State Patrol officer was on a routine shift, patrolling in his fully marked squad car, northbound on I35W near 46th Street in Minneapolis, Hennepin County. The patrol officer observed a dark colored BMW pass his squad car in the left lane, traveling at a high rate of speed. The officer attempted to catch up to the vehicle, while the vehicle traveled at speeds more than 100 mph, weaving in and out of traffic. When the officer caught up to the vehicle near Northbound 135W and Industrial Boulevard, he activated his emergency lights and attempted to execute a stop on the vehicle.
The vehicle was traveling at 94 mph when the officer initiated the stop. When the officer activated lights, the driver, later identified as JHONATHAN PATRICIO DUTAN CAGUANA, [DOB REDACTED], Defendant herein, accelerated and turned off his lights. Due to the officer having a passenger in his vehicle, he terminated the chase after the vehicle accelerated away from him and advised Dispatch as to its description and location. Dispatch was able to follow the vehicle, and other patrol cars were able to pick up the pursuit.
Defendant was finally stopped in Ramsey County, Minnesota near University Avenue. The initiating officer arrived on scene and confirmed this was the vehicle he had attempted to stop.
