Complainant is Maple Grove Police Department Detective Kate Damm. Complainant states that on October 31, 2025, officers responded to a residence in the city of Maple Grove, Hennepin County, Minnesota, regarding a report of an assault. Upon arrival, officers were able to hear two parties loudly arguing in the garage. Officers made contact with R. M. And SAMUEL RICHARD MCCARTHY [DOB REDACTED], who were identified as father and son. Officers observed R. M. Cleaning blood coming from a small laceration from his forearm, which he stated came from MCCARTHY pushing him down the stairs.
MCCARTHY was visibly intoxicated and in an agitated state. MCCARTHY was presenting with darting glances behind officers, tensing of his shoulders and arms, and clenching of his fists and jaws. Officers placed MCCARTHY in handcuffs and the parties were separated. Officers met with R. M. Who stated that MCCARTHY is his son and lives at home with him and other family members. R. M. Advised MCCARTHY had been drinking all day and he was drunk. R. M. Had just moved his wife into a memory care facility and MCCARTHY had been disrespectful towards her all day, calling her crazy.
This caused R. M. To push MCCARTHY against a door and tell him to watch his mouth. MCCARTHY then began thrashing and tussling with him and he then pushed R. M. Down a flight of approximately 6 stairs. R. M. Stated that the laceration on his arm was a result of MCCARTHY pushing him down the stairs.
