On or about December 12, 2025, Brooklyn Center police officers were dispatched to an apartment complex located at [ADDRESS REDACTED], Brooklyn Center, Hennepin County, Minnesota for a report of an unwanted party, JAWAN LEWIS BARNES [DOB REDACTED] “Defendant” herein, which was later changed to a domestic report. The reporting party, Victim herein, said her defendant is the father of her child [NAME REDACTED] has been threatening to kill the victim for the last three days. Upon arrival police made contact with the victim.
She said defendant has sent threatening text messages and he came to her apartment and threatened to kill her today. She showed police videos and texts received from the defendant. Yesterday he sent a video of him dragging a belt in front of her apartment. The victim [NAME REDACTED] was for and he responded “I’m goin to beat you, I’m really going to beat you.” He also said, “take me off child support or I will close both of your eyes” and “I am in your building waiting to beat you ass.” Other messages from him said “Popping out for blood today” and “trying to kill something, I don’t give a f*** you can keep the change in heaven.” A KOPS alert was issued and defendant was arrested.
Defendant has numerous prior qualified domestic violence-related offenses, including: - MSD Violation of a DANCO (••-CR-••-••••), convicted 6/28/2023. - Felony First Degree Burglary (••-CR-••-••••), convicted 12/10/2018. - Felony Strangulation (••-CR-••-••••), convicted 12/10/2018. Defendant has also been convicted of: - Felon Second Degree Burglary (••-CR-••-••••), convicted 3/30/2022. Defendant is in custody.
