On March 20, 2026, at approximately 3:30 A.M., the Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office was dispatched on a report of a discharged firearm at the parking lot of the American Lodge and Suites located in the City of Pequot Lakes, Crow Wing County, State of Minnesota. Deputy Schley responded to the scene where he interviewed an adult male identified as MBH (fully identified in police reports). MBH stated that he works with JDW (fully identified in police reports) and Lucas Karlheinz Dornbusch, [DOB REDACTED], herinafter defendant.
They were all staying at the hotel. The three of them were consuming alcohol in the parking lot of the hotel. MBH stated he got into an argument with the defendant next to his work truck. He then walked away from the defendant and JDW. He then heard a gunshot. He turned around and saw the defendant fire the gun again. He also believed he saw the defendant pick up shell casings. Deputy Schley then spoke with JDW. He stated the three of them were drinking next to the work trucks in the parking lot.
MBH and the defendant got into an argument. MBH walked away. He then heard gun shots. He did not actually see the defendant fire the gun. However, he believed he saw a pistol in the defendant's hand. Deputy Schley observed that a tire on a Ford work truck in parking lot appeared to have had a bullet fired through it. Law enforcement recovered the bullet as well as additional bullet fragments underneath the truck. Law enforcement looked for the defendant but could not find him. He was not in his hotel room.
They ultimately located him smoking a cigarette in front of the hotel. The defendant was wearing a dark colored hoodie with an emblem on the back. The defendant appeared to be intoxicated. The defendant's clothes were wet. Deputy Schley believed he had been hiding in the woods. He did not have a handgun on his person. The defendant declined to give a statement. The Pequot Police Department obtained video footage of the parking lot of the American lodge and suites. At approximately 3:30 a.m, three males are seen standing by trucks in the parking lot.
A taller male walks away towards the hotel. The other two remain behind. You can see one of the males pulled out a handgun and point it towards one of the trucks. You can then see a muzzle flash. The two males then stand in the parking lot for a few more moments. The person who fired the handgun appeared to have an emblem on the back of his shirt.
